How this calculator works

Enter your sale price and product cost, pick a category (or type in your own referral fee percentage), and choose FBA or FBM. The calculator works out Amazon's referral fee, the FBA fulfilment fee (if applicable), and UK VAT and Digital Services Tax where relevant, then shows your profit per unit, ROI, margin and break-even sale price. Add expected units sold per month to see projected monthly revenue and profit.

Amazon FBA fees explained

Two fees make up most of what Amazon takes from a sale: the referral fee, a percentage of the sale price that varies by category, and (if you use Fulfilment by Amazon) the FBA fulfilment fee, a flat per-unit charge for picking, packing and shipping based on the product's size and weight. UK sellers also pay VAT on top of both fees, plus a small Digital Services Tax Amazon applies to its own fees.

FeeWhat it covers
Referral feeA percentage of the sale price, set by category (typically 8-20% in the UK)
FBA fulfilment feeFlat per-unit fee for Amazon picking, packing and shipping the order (FBA only)
VAT20% UK VAT, applied to the sale price, cost and fees for VAT-registered sellers
Digital Services TaxA small tax Amazon applies to its own referral and fulfilment fees

Revenue vs. profit vs. ROI vs. margin

These terms get used interchangeably but answer different questions. Revenue is simply units sold × sale price, and it says nothing about whether the product is worth selling. Profit is what's left after product cost and Amazon's fees. ROI (return on investment) is profit as a percentage of what you spent on stock, the number that tells you how hard your cash is working. Margin is profit as a percentage of the sale price, useful for comparing pricing strategy across products.

Two products can have identical profit per unit and wildly different ROI. A £2 profit on a £4 cost item is a much better use of cash than a £2 profit on a £40 cost item.

FAQ

Is this FBA calculator accurate?

It uses the same fee formula (referral fee, FBA fulfilment fee, UK VAT and Digital Services Tax) as SourceSheets' own product-level calculator. The referral fee percentages are standard Amazon UK category rates. Some categories have price-banded exceptions, so check Amazon's official fee schedule if you need an exact figure for a specific product.

What's a good ROI or margin for Amazon FBA?

Most FBA sellers aim for at least 20-30% ROI and a margin above 15-20% once fees are accounted for, though thresholds vary by category and how much cash you're willing to tie up in stock.

Does this calculator include VAT?

Yes. Toggle "VAT" if you're VAT registered, and the calculator strips VAT from your sale price, cost and fees before working out profit, matching how Amazon actually settles VAT-registered UK sellers.

Where do I find my exact referral fee and FBA fee?

Amazon shows both in Seller Central under your product's pricing details, or you can look up the category rate on Amazon's official Selling on Amazon fee schedule.

Beyond a one-off calculation

This calculator is a manual, per-product snapshot. If you're evaluating products regularly, SourceSheets' ASIN Monitor pulls a product's real referral fee, FBA fee and price history straight from Amazon data and runs the same profit math automatically, with no manual fee lookups required.
